Privacy, plainly
Many people here write about things that could cost them. So this page says exactly what happens to your data, including the limits of anonymity.
What we store
- Your username and a hashed password (we can't read it).
- An email address, only if you choose to add one. It isn't required.
- A hash of your recovery code. We can't see the code itself.
- Your articles, comments, and reactions, and which account made them.
- Reports that readers send, which don't record who sent them.
What "anonymous" means here
Posting anonymously hides your username from readers. The site's administrators can technically see which account wrote an anonymous post, because the database has to link the post to you so you can edit or delete it. We don't publish that link, but we can't pretend it doesn't exist. If you need stronger protection, use a username that has nothing to do with you, don't add an email, and connect through Tor or a VPN.
Logs and tracking
- This website keeps no access logs. We don't record who visited which page.
- To limit spam and password guessing, short-lived counters use a one-way hash of your IP address. They expire within minutes.
- Your browser gets a session cookie and a security cookie so you can log in. There are no ad trackers, analytics, or third-party scripts or fonts.
Cloudflare
Traffic to this site may pass through Cloudflare, a network that sits in front of it. Cloudflare can see visitor IP addresses under its own policies, which we don't control.
Legal requests
We don't sell or share your data. We hold very little, but if we're legally compelled, we may have to hand over what we do hold. That is why we keep so little.
Deleting your content
You can delete your own articles at any time from My posts. Deleting an article removes its comments and reactions too.
